§ 6. Spouse's pension.

The city council may provide, by resolution, for the payment of a pension or allowance to the unremarried spouse of a deceased employee of the city in an amount and manner deemed appropriate in consideration of the services to this city performed by the employee. The spouse of a deceased employee shall not be entitled to the pension or allowance if the option to provide for a survivor's pension or allowance through a State of Maryland or city retirement system was available to the employee, except that this restriction shall not apply to spouses already receiving such pension or allowance.
