§ 2.46.020. Economic Development Program.

  • The Economic Development Division shall be responsible for implementing an Economic Development Program and, as a part of that program, the division shall:

    1.

    Advocate for a review of policies, regulations, and laws and their implementation to encourage sound and balanced economic growth.

    2.

    Provide for collaboration among those City agencies and departments that are vital to the success of the Economic Development Program.

    3.

    Attract and encourage the retention of businesses, including small, minority, and/or disadvantaged enterprises.

    4.

    Promote the creation and retention of jobs in the City.

    5.

    Advocate for the expansion of the commercial and industrial tax base of the City.

    6.

    Apply for and administer grants and loans related to the economic vitality of the City of Annapolis and assist with various tax credit and loan programs offered by the County, State, and Federal governments as these programs relate to the economic vitality of the City.

    7.

    Work with other municipal officials and private parties in identifying areas of the City in need of economic revitalization and cooperate in the preparation of plans to bring economic revitalization to such areas.

    8.

    Offer existing businesses and prospective businesses assistance in identifying sources of financing and professional and technical services.

    9.

    Prepare forecasts and statistics of economic conditions in the City.

    10.

    Analyze the economic impact of proposed legislation.

    11.

    Participate in the urban and regional planning activities of the City, Anne Arundel County, and the Regional Planning Organizations consistent with the character of the City.

    12.

    Serve as a liaison to the business community in the City.

    13.

    Provide technical assistance and information to the business community and its recognized associations.

    14.

    Serve as a liaison to the Anne Arundel County Economic Development Corporation, or its successor.
